Moscow (VNA) – Russian President Vladimir Putin onNovember 7 directed providing 5 million USD in aid for Vietnam to overcomeconsequences of typhoon Damrey.
The aircraft Il-76 is to carry relief goods from Russia toVietnam.
Speaking to the media, Russian President’s spokesman DmitryPeskov expressed his hope that the humanitarian initiative will be welcomed bymany countries.
Russia calls on the global community, including those attendingthe Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting, to showsolidarity with Vietnamese people, he said.
Peskov added that Putin discussed with Prime Minister DmitriMedvedev, Minister of Civil Defence, Emergencies and Disaster Relief VladimirPuchkov, and Minister of Finance Anton Siluanov about damage caused by the stormin Vietnam.
Causing the most serious damages over the past two decades, typhoonDamrey made landfall in central Vietnam at a time when the APEC EconomicLeaders’ Week is ongoing in the central city of Da Nang from November 6-11.
The typhoon has so far left 69 dead, 30 injured, tens ofthousands of people evacuated, and collapsed over 120,700 houses.
It also damaged transport infrastructure and left many areasin power outage.-VNA
