Hanoi (VNA) – Russia’s Ambassador to Vietnam Konstantin Vnukov has highlighted Russia’s October Revolution as the most important event in the 20th century, strongly impacting the world.

Thanks to the revolution in 1917, Russia has pushed ahead with reconstruction to become a strong industrial country, the diplomat told Vietnam News Agency.

The event promoted revolutionary movements in Asia, including Vietnam, to end the colonial system in the 1960s, he said.

He also mentioned cooperation prospects between Vietnam and Russia today, adding that the two countries have achieved the highest level in bilateral relations by establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership.

The most important thing at the present is developing cooperation across the board, he said.

Vietnamese and Russian leaders also set an ambitious goal of doubling two-way trade by 2020, he said, describing this as a tough but achievable task due to the free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union which took effect more than a year ago.

The two countries should nurture their traditional friendship among young generations to build a basis for strong future ties, he noted.-VNA
