Hanoi (VNS/VNA) — Samsung Vietnam in co-ordination with the KoreaFoundation (KF) awarded scholarships to 135 outstanding students majoring inKorean worth a total of 33,750 USD.

The recipients are studentsmajoring in Korean studies of six Vietnamese universities and colleges.

Since December 1995, throughthe Korea Foundation – KF, Samsung Electronics has donated 1 million USD tocreate a foundation to promote the Samsung – Vietnam Academic ExchangeProgramme.

Over the past 25 years, the KFand Samsung Electronics have awarded scholarships to a total of 2,700 studentsacross the country, held academic seminars and run trips to visit andexperience Republic of Korea for future young leaders worth a total of nearly 20billion VND (about 866,750 USD).

From this year, the KF-SamsungFoundation will focus on supporting the expansion of Korean language coursesand awarding scholarships to students at 12 universities and collegesspecialising in Korean nationwide.

Earlier, the scholarship wasgiven to 135 excellent students from six schools in thesouth-central region.

In the next five years, Samsungand the KF Foundation will annually award scholarships to 270 excellentstudents specialising in Korean from 12 universities across the country. Thetotal value of the scholarship is 337,500 USD in five years.

In addition, in the next threeyears, Samsung and the KF Foundation also plan to fund training equipment suchas TVs, projectors and sound systems to improve the facilities in classroomsand language practice rooms in the Korean faculties of 12 universities with atotal value of 360,000 USD.

Speaking at the scholarshipaward ceremony, Choi Joo Ho, President of Samsung Vietnam, said: “Samsungalways strives to implement the corporate social responsibility activities tonurture and develop human resources for the future. Through the Samsung-KFscholarship award ceremony today, we hope that the Korean ability of Vietnam'snext generations will be further promoted and will be the contributors todevelop a good friendship between Vietnam and Korea”./.

Remains of Vietnamese fallen soldiers, experts repatriated from Laos

The remains of 12 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts, who laid down their lives in different periods in Laos’ Savannakhet province, were repatriated following a handover ceremony on May 21. They will be re-buried at the Road 9 National Martyrs Cemetery in Vietnam's central province of Quang Tri on May 22.

Nghe An reburies martyrs' remains repatriated from Laos

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Phung Thanh Vinh said that carrying a noble international duty, many Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts heroically joined Lao people in their struggle for national liberation and independence. Many of them sacrificed their lives in the country, including more than 12,000 soldiers laying down in the three provinces of Xaysomboun, Vientiane, and Xiangkhouang.
