Seventh working day of 15th NA’s fifth session

The 15th National Assembly concluded the seventh working day of its fifth session on May 29, which was broadcast live on national television and radio channels and the legislature’s television channel.

Hanoi (VNA) – The 15th National Assemblyconcluded the seventh working day of its fifth session on May 29, which wasbroadcast live on national television and radio channels and the legislature’s televisionchannel.

Legislators looked into the mobilisation, managementand use of resources for COVID-19 prevention and control; and theimplementation of policies and laws on grassroots health and preventivemedicine.

They shared the view that the work has received theattention of the Party, the State, localities and the entire society, andreaped significant outcomes, contributing to completing the dual goals of pandemicprevention and control, and socio-economic recovery and development.

The lawmakers, however, pointed to limitations in bothlaw making and enforcement, as well as their causes, and stressed the needto take measures to fix them in the time ahead.

Besides, they agreed with the issuance of the NA’sresolution on the matters, and many gave opinions to specific contents of thedocument.

At the end of the discussion, Minister of Home AffairsPham Thi Thanh Tra, Minister of Finance Ho Duc Phoc, and Minister of Health DaoHong Lan further clarified some issues of deputies’ concern.

The legislators will continue with a plenary sessionon May 30 to listen to a reporton the draft revised Law on Electronic Transactions, and scrutinise investmentplans for two projects.

In the afternoon, they will opine on a proposal andverification report on a draft revised resolution on conducting votes ofconfidence on officials elected or approved by the NA or People's Councils, andthen discussed in groups the draft resolution, along with another on pilotingsome specific mechanisms and policies for development in Ho Chi Minh City./.

Modern criminal justice system proposed under revised Criminal Procedure Code

The revised code proposes more progressive procedural rules to enhance adversarial proceedings, tighten power oversight and better protect human and citizens' rights. It will retain effective existing provisions, amend or repeal outdated regulations, and introduce new procedures to expedite case handling, reduce procedural costs and improve efficiency while ensuring fairness, objectivity and greater protection of the lawful rights and interests of organisations and individuals. It also aims to modernise criminal proceedings through the wider application of digital technologies and closer alignment with international practices.

Vietnam, Laos strengthen cooperation on overseas community affairs

The two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in overseas Vietnamese and overseas Lao affairs for the 2026–2030 period, providing a framework for future collaboration.
