Singapore, Japan discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation amidst COVID-19

Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his Japanese counterpart Yoshihide Suga discussed strengthening cooperation between the two countries amidst the COVID-19 pandemic in a phone call on October 29 afternoon, Lee announced in the latest Facebook post.

He welcomed theresumption of essential travel between Singapore and Japan.

“Singapore andJapan are like-minded partners enjoying a longstanding close relationship,” theSingaporean leader said. “We have many opportunities to work together, e.g. invaccine multilateralism, third-country infrastructure cooperation, andpreparing for the digital economy.”

“We also bothsupport multilateralism and are working to sign the Regional ComprehensiveEconomic Partnership by the end of this year,” he added.

Lee said he looksforward to partnering Prime Minister Suga to strengthen bilateral ties, andhopes to meet his counterpart in person soon./.
