Hanoi (VNA) – The Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) 2016 kicked off on April 17 in Singapore under the theme “Positioning for Future Growth”.

Organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the annual event draws around 30,000 visitors, mainly operating in the marine field from across the world.

Chief Executive of MPA Andrew Tan said the 11th SMW especially emphasised the competitiveness in maritime industry through addressing economic challenges and defining potential fields to boost growth.

Khaw Boon Wan, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport, announced the new logo of Singaporean maritime industry, which is regarded as part of the country’s initiatives to develop the sector.

The Asia Pacific Maritime 2016 also took place in Singapore one month ago, shaping one of the biggest maritime exhibitions in the region to be held biennially.

Experts said they are optimistic about the long-term growth prospect in Asia, one of the most rapid development regions in the world, which houses 30 global leading container ports and contributes 70 percent of global container volume.

Particularly, the new multilateral initiatives such as the ASEAN Economic Community and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement are expected to continuously boost trade in the region and the world, including maritime trade.

The Singapore Maritime Week and the Asia Pacific Maritime offer good opportunities for businesses to exchange experience and seek partners as well as study innovative strategies and business trends in the region and beyond, experts said.-VNA
