Singapore surpassed the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong, China to be declared the world’s fastest broadband nation.

The survey, conducted by the US-based Ookla Net Index, revealed an average broadband connection of 104 Mbps for Singaporean residents.

China’s Hong Kong was ranked second, followed by the Republic of Korea at 80 Mbps.

Ooka Net Index is known as an online tool which enables internet users to test the actual speed of their broadband connection.

However, Ookla Net Index’s survey results were vastly different from those of another US-based Akamai Technology Com.

According to Akamai’s evaluation, Singapore was only the 10 th fastest broadband speed in the world with an average connection of 12.2 Mbps in the third quarter of 2014.

The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) said they will examine reports from both firms to determine the nation’s true broadband speed.-VNA
