Singaporean voters enthusiastic on election day

Singapore (VNA) - Approximately 2.6 million Singaporeans on 3 May 2025, participated in the country's 14th general election since independence.

The election marked the first major electoral test for Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who succeeded Lee Hsien Loong in last May.

Voting took place at 1,240 polling stations nationwide, operating from 8 am to 8 pm. local time. Special provisions were made for elderly, disabled, and pregnant voters.

The Elections Department deployed around 34,000 public service officers to facilitate nomination, voting, and counting processes.

The ruling People's Action Party (PAP) contested all 97 parliamentary seats, securing five unopposed in the Marine Parade–Braddell Heights Group Representation Constituency (GRC).

Eleven political parties and two independent candidates vied for the remaining seats, with the Workers' Party contesting 26 seats across eight constituencies.

Vote counting commenced immediately after polls closed./.
