Singapore (VNA) - Murali Pillai, candidate for Singapore's ruling party People's Action Party (PAP), has garnered the by-election for Bukit Batok Single Member Constituency (SMC).

Murali Pillai, a 48-year-old lawyer, won 61.2 percent of the votes on May 7 while his rival Chee Soon Juan from the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) took 38.8 percent of the votes.

The Bukit Batok single seat was vacated after PAP's representative David Ong resigned due personal reason two months ago.

In the General Election last September, PAP won a landslide victory taking 83 out of 89 seats in the parliament.-VNA
