Hanoi (VNA) – Speaker of the House ofRepresentatives of Australia Tony Smith began an official three-day visit toVietnam on July 23.

The visit was made at theinvitation of Chairwoman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Nguyen Thi KimNgan.

Vietnam and Australia officially establisheddiplomatic relations on February 26, 1973. Through the decades, Vietnam andAustralia have built a strong partnership with the establishment of acomprehensive partnership in 2009. They signed a declaration on enhancing thebilateral comprehensive partnership in 2015.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc andhis Australian counterpart Malcolm Turnbull signed a joint statement on theestablishment of the Vietnam-Australia Strategic Partnership following theirtalks in Canberra, Australia, on March 15, 2018, as part of the former’sofficial visit.-VNA
