At a reception for Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Ton Sinh Thanh, Rajapaksa underlined great potentials of cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of trade, investment, agriculture, oil and gas, telecommunications, tourism, aviation and education and training.

Sri Lanka is currently carrying out major rebuilding projects, thus Vietnamese businesses should take advantage of this chance to expand market and invest in the country, he added.

The President asked the two sides to promote exchanges of delegations at all levels and early host the third session of the Joint Committee to review the cooperation over the past two years and further expand bilateral cooperation.

He also reiterated his invitation to Vietnamese leaders, especially the State President to visit Sri Lanka in the near future.

Ambassador Thanh thanked Sri Lankan leaders for creating favourable conditions for the reopening of the Vietnamese Embassy in the capital city of Colombo.

He pledged to actively work with Sri Lankan ministries and departments to implement bilateral cooperation agreements, contributing to strengthening and further promote the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries./.
