The Sudanese Ambassador to Vietnam, Adil Ibrahim Mustafa Ahmed, on Aug. 25 inaugurated his nation's honorary consulate in Ho Chi Minh City and introduced the honorary consul, a Vietnamese national.

He said Tran Uyen Phuong, deputy general director of Tan Hiep Phat Group, a major non-alcoholic beverage maker in Vietnam , was the most impressive among dozens of candidates who applied for the position.

At the ceremony, the ambassador said the Sudanese Government had decided to appoint an honorary consul to the city because of the huge potential for economic and cultural relations.

Sudan is the third largest country in Africa with an area of 2.5 million square kilometers and a population of 39 million.

The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1969 and Sudan opened an embassy in Hanoi in 2009./.
