Hanoi (VNA) – Taal volcano near the Philippines' capital region has erupted, the country's seismology agency announced on October 2, saying that the alert level remains at the lowest on the scale.
The 311- high Taal, located about 70 km south of central Manila, is one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines. Some of its previous eruptions have impacted daily life of people in the capital city of Manila and air travel.
In 1911, its eruption killed more than 1,300 people. In January 2021, thousands of people were evacuated after it spewed a 1,000m high plume of gas and steam.
The Philippines lies on the “Ring of Fire” - a belt of volcanoes circling the Pacific Ocean that is also prone to earthquakes and vocalnic eruptions./.
