Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved the portfolio of a technical assistance project which is part of preparations for a scheme on improving the effective use of water resources for drought-hit provinces.

The project will be carried out over two years with a budget of 1 million USD, of which 800,000 USD will be funded by non-refundable aid from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

It aims to help five target provinces of Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Dak Lak and Dak Nong build feasibility reports and investment documents for the water use efficiency scheme meeting the requirements of domestic regulations and ADB policies. .

The major project on improving the effective use of water resources will be carried out in the five provinces with the goal of distributing water resources in an appropriate manner, thus increasing the added value of agricultural production and enhancing local capacity of sustainably adapting to climate change based on the improvement of institutions, irrigation management policies, the application of water-saving irrigation technology and the upgrading of field-level irrigation systems.

The scheme will be funded by a loan of 110 million USD also from the ADB.-VNA
