Bangkok (VNA/NNT)Automotive industry members have voiced readiness to push Thailand to becoming an eco-friendly base for automobile production, expecting electric car manufacturing in the country to grow to 20 billion THB in value within the next five years.

In preparation for Automotive Summit 2017, slated for June 21-22 at BITEC Bangna Convention Centre, Thai car makers have said they are aligned with the government’s 4.0 goals and wish to see the Kingdom become a hub of eco-friendly and environmentally sound car production.

The summit is to feature talks on innovations and automotive technology that will make the industry more eco-friendly and other adaptations to achieve a 4.0 era.

Acting Director of Thailand Automotive Institute Nattapol Rangsitpol detailed that the summit will bring together executives from major car brands who will be sharing their ideas and knowledge. The event is to focus on electrical cars, which Nattapol said was a boon for Thailand as it has prepared to convert its production for such vehicles.

Three to four companies have already shown interest in placing their electric vehicle production facilities in Thailand and it is expected the segment will grow in value to 20 billion THB over the next 5 years with 100,000 cars released annually. At the same time, the country is soon to see the opening of its automobile and tire testing center, which will elevate the entire country’s ability to manufacture and sell cars.-VNA/NNT
