Thai Binh (VNA) – About 600 people registered to donate their blood at a programme held in the Red River Delta province of Thai Binh on April 7, in response to Vietnam’s Blood Donation Day.
Speaking at the event, Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Linh, who is also head of the steering committee for blood donation mobilisation of Thai Binh, said last year, the communication campaign came to localities in the province to raise public awareness of the work.
In 2017, Thai Binh collected 11,600 units of blood, exceeding 20 percent of the targeted amount.
On this occasion, collectives with outstanding performance in blood donation work were honoured.
Similar events were also held in other localities nationwide like the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, the northern province of Tuyen Quang and Khanh Hoa province in the central region.
The National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) said it needs a minimum of 1,500 units of blood daily for emergencies and medical treatment at 180 hospitals in Hanoi and northern provinces. Of the amount, 45 percent needs to be Type O, equivalent to about 700 units.-VNA
