Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - Thailand’s export of fresh, chilled, frozen, and dried fruit and vegetables in the first two months this year has grown from 2018 at 46.85 percent, expected to reach annual growth of 30-40 percent worth 4 billion USD.
The Ministry of Commerce is proceeding with international marketing plans to accommodate expected growth of supply hitting the market, especially from April to June.
The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) Director General Banjongjitt Angsusingh revealed the ongoing trade war between China and the United States has contributed positively and negatively with Thailand’s fruit export industry, as the department is expecting more Thai fruit products will be able to be exported to China replacing the those previously shipped from the US. However Thai fruit products will be facing more competition from products from both China and the US in other markets.
The department is aimed to cope with this challenge by promoting key characteristics and values of Thai fruit products among consumers, ensuring product quality, and creating brands to improve the competitiveness.
The DITP is aimed to focus more on online product sales on www.thaitrade.com, and Alibaba’s TMall website throughout this year. There are currently 9 Thai fruit products selected for sale on these platforms, namely durian, mangosteen, lamyai, mango, coconut, jackfruit, rose apple, pineapple, and longan. It is expected sales value on these platforms will exceed 130 million US dollar.
For offline channels, the department will be working with importers, shopping malls, supermarkets, Thai restaurants, and trade partners in targeted markets to further promote the awareness and popularity Thai products in foreign countries.-NNT/VNA
