Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has been honoured with the "Woman of the Year 2013" award.
The Association for the Promotion of the Status of Women under the Royal Patronage of Princess Soamsawali granted the award to the Prime Minister for her substantial roles in supporting the improvement of status and better living of women by initiating the Thai Women Empowerment Fund and the One Stop Crisis Centres (OSCC), which is in harmony with obligations of the association.
Speaking upon receiving the plaque of honour on this occasion, Yingluck assured the government’s readiness to support the empowerment of Thai women at both national and local levels to prepare them for the launch of ASEAN Community.
The "Woman of the Year" award is given to those who are committed to support the development of Thai women.
In addition, former ASEAN Secretary-General Surin Pitsuwan was named "Man of the Year 2013" for the same occasion.-VNA
