Bangkok (VNA) – The Thai Ministry of Agriculture has forecastthat the country will export 9.5 million tonnes of rice in 2018, lower than 11.3million tonnes in 2017 due to low stockpile and modest production caused byheavy rains.
Many experts said that the increase of the Southeast Asian country’scurrency bath will significantly influence its rice exports, especially theshipment of hom mali (Thai jasmine rice) due to low supply.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the country is likely toproduce 22-23 million tonnes of rice, equivalent to that in 2017.
The ministry also added that the unexpected weather conditions mayaffect the prediction.-VNA
