Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - Thailand's Department of Trade Negotiations is preparing for the ASEAN Senior Economic Officials Meeting due to take place between January 12 and 18. The meeting will be the first such meeting since Thailand assumed the bloc's chairmanship.

Director-General of the Department of Trade Negotiations, Oramon Saptaweetam, said discussions will focus on facilitating trade through measures such as an electronic customs system across all 10 member nations and enabling self-certification of product origin to reduce export costs and time. The meeting will also discuss the implications of the 4th industrial revolution and make preparations for the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) meeting in Bali.

As the ASEAN region is Thailand's No.1 trade partner, accounting for 22.7 percent of all of the country's trade, Mrs Oramon said her office will focus on reducing barriers to boost trade activity and help Thai businesses deal with new challenges.  - NNT/VNA
