Thailand has hosted this year’s meeting for the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), which aimed to discuss policy planning.

Niwattumrong Boonsongpaisan, Thai Commerce Minister and Deputy Prime Minister presided over the ERIA meeting, which discussed issues concerning policy forming, strategic planning and ERIA budget planning, as well as addressing the economic research topics that ASEAN member countries asked ERIA to conduct for the years 2012-2013.

The ERIA was established during the 3rd East Asia Summit (EAS) in 2007 by the six dialogue partner countries. It focuses on trade promotion and boosting economic clusters within East Asia for investment and the development of SMEs, human resources and infrastructure.

The outcomes of the meeting will be presented to leaders and Prime Ministers of 16 countries.-VNA
