Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-O-Cha held talks with his counterpart Najib Razak on December 1 to discuss the progress of peace talks in the southern region of Thailand along the two countries’ shared border.

This is Prayuth’s first visit to Malaysia since he took office after the coup in May.

According to an announcement made by the Malaysian government on December 1, Prayuth’s visit will create opportunities for the two sides to boost the existing cooperation in various fields, such as trade and investment.

Meanwhile, Prayuth’s government expressed its hope to restart Malaysia- hosted peace talks between Thailand and Muslim rebels which began under former Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s time.

Those talks made little headway and collapsed last year during Thailand’s political crisis.-VNA
