Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - For the third consecutive year, Thai firms have received the most appraisals for standardised software practices compared to those from other ASEAN member nations.

Thitapa Samitinon, Deputy Director of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), presented awards to 16 companies that received Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) appraisal.

She said that since 2007, her agency has worked with software development organisations to push for standardised practices to meet international demand and boost credibility in the Thai software industry. Over the past three years, a total of 86 Thai companies have received CMMI appraisal, the most among ASEAN member nations.

CMMI appraisals have led to higher revenue for the software industry, with one survey indicating that appraised companies received a five-fold return on investment.

Administered by the CMMI Institute, it was developed at the US-based Carnegie Mellon University. -NNT/VNA
