Thailand ’s Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA) has held a meeting to ponder over appropriate action against human trafficking next year.

According to DOPA Director General Kritsada Boonrat, the meeting has sought to increase the capacity of the provincial officials in dealing with the issue.

Thirty-three provinces in Thailand that are located either by the sea or along the border are said to be hotbeds for human trafficking activities.

He said the National Council for Peace and Order has instructed every agency involved to strictly deal with human traders to the full extent of law, after Thailand has been relegated to a Tier 3 on the US human trafficking watch list.

The commitment should also be made to prevent illegal migrants being brought into the country, concluded the director.-VNA
