Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - Thailand has won a trade deal for the export of 324,000 tonnes of rice to the Philippines.

Department of Foreign Trade (DFT) Director-General Adul Chotinisakorn said Thailand has won the auction to export 80,000 tonnes of 25 percent white rice to the Philippines' National Food Authority, with shipment scheduled for December 2018.

Meanwhile, two exporters have also won auctions to export another 144,000 tons of the 25 percent white rice to the Philippines, which are to be shipped in December 2018 and January 2019.

Those deals have accounted for a combined 324,000 tons of rice which will improve the domestic rice prices and generate more incomes to farmers.

Thailand has so far this year exported 9.89 tonnes of rice worth 161.38 billion baht, marking a 4.52 percent growth year on year. The DFT is anticipating some 11 million tons of rice for export, given new purchase orders, especially from African countries. – NNT/VNA
