Hanoi (VNA) – The spirit of the historic August Revolution 75 years ago is still alive thanks to the inheritance of today’s young generation.

The aspirations for national self-reliance have been expressed by enthusiastic and creative action movements of youth unionists and young people.

Worthy of previous generations' expectations

Young people aged between 16 and 20 years old of the Hoang Dieu Citadel National Salvation Youth Union are now at the age of over 90 years old. However, every time when they recall the historic moment of the August Revolution, they always have a faith that today’s young generation will continue, to “burn themselves to the fullest”.

“We have expectations about the strength of the youth force. We want to remind the young generation to have revolutionary enthusiasm, patriotism as well as dedication and knowledge,” said Le Duc Van (who’s real name is Nguyen Huu Phuc), head of the liaison board of Hanoi’s Hoang Dieu Citadel National Salvation Youth Union.

Sitting next to him, Nguyen Tien Ha (Nguyen Huu Tu), deputy head of the liaison board, also recalled those days when tens of thousands of young Hanoians in the 1940s were ready to fight and sacrifice to seize administration. He said that today’s youths still retain this enthusiastic spirit and determination in the national building and safeguarding cause.

“Although our generation had many difficulties and hardships, by faith and passionate love for the country, we had stood up to regain the administration. Today's young generation is living in peace and happiness, so they must strive to make Vietnam stand shoulder to shoulder with the five continents’ powers as teachings of President Ho Chi Minh,” said Ha.

He affirmed, in any circumstances, youths are a core force and have great contributions to all major events of the nation.

He suggested all-level authorities and organisations carry out programmes and policies to inspire their patriotism.

Historical mission continues to put on young generation's shoulders

At a traditional meeting of male and female members of the Hoang Dieu Citadel National Salvation Youth Union on August 17, Ngo Phu Thao from the School Board of Hanoi’s Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union said she was touched by stories about the August Revolution 75 years ago.

In the atmosphere of the historical August, young people like Thao thought that being born and growing up during peacetime is an honour, and they feel proud of the history and are aware that today’s peace, independence and reunification were exchanged by blood and youth and many previous generations.

Thao, therefore, emphasised the responsibility of today’s young generation for maintaining and promoting revolutionary achievements, and to deserve forefathers’ expectations.

“The responsibility of building and defending the nation in the current period is putting on the young generation's shoulders a historical mission, requiring us to strive to promote the spirit of the August Revolution by studying hard, promoting ambitions and conquering advances in science and technology to make the country grow further with an increasingly high international position and reputation,” Thao said.

According to statistics of the Hanoi Youth Union, there are currently 656,444 members, of whom 3,864 were admitted in the first half of 2020. In the period, 875 excellent members were introduced to be admitted to the Party.

Having such a large number of members is thanks to the union’s efforts to continuously renew patriotic emulation movements, organise contests on history and traditions, and educate youths on patriotism and solidarity.

To catch up with the new situation in a changing world, the union has also encouraged the youth to join hands in building a mighty Vietnam.

“Following Uncle Ho's teaching of ‘Young people are ready whenever they are needed, young people take the lead wherever there are difficulties,’ our generation always upholds the spirit of enthusiastic willingness to volunteer to the places where the country needs, even if it is border or island, whether the job is new or difficult,” Thao confidently said./.
