Pretoria (VNA) – The Togolese foreign minister has told Vietnamese Ambassador Pham Anh Tuan that he wants the two countries to tighten cooperation at international forums.

Receiving Tuan when he came to present a copy of his credentials recently, Togolese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and African Integration Komlan Edo Robert Dussey highly valued Vietnam’s recent development, expressing his hope that the two countries will bolster cooperation at international events, especially in issues of mutual concern.

Ambassador Tuan informed his host about Vietnam’s situation and bilateral relations. He also conveyed a diplomatic note to the minister, asking Togo to support Vietnam’s candidacy for non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council in 2020-2021 and to soon recognise the market economy of the country.

During his first working trip to Togo from January 16 to 18, Ambassador Pham Anh Tuan, who is also Vietnam’s Ambassador to Nigeria, also met with several Togolese officials, including the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Breeding and Fisheries and the Minister of Trade and Private Sector Promotion.

Talking to the chairman of Togo’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the diplomat introduced Vietnamese businesses’ capacity of export and cooperation with countries in Africa and the world.

The two sides agreed to build a channel for information exchange between the two countries’ business circles. They also planned to organise a business-to-business conference in 2018. -VNA
