Top legislator calls for support to disadvantaged people

Ben Tre (VNA) – National AssemblyChairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan on February 2 called on administrations at all levels and sectors to better thesocial welfare work, ensuring that all people, especially social policy beneficiaries and poor households,enjoy a happy Tet (Lunar New Year) festival.
Speaking at a ceremony presenting Tet gifts to disadvantaged people in the southern province of BenTre, the top legislator said join efforts are needed to care for people,especially Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin victims, people with disabilities andorphans.
At the ceremony, PetroVietnam Gas Joint StockCorporation handed over 1,500 packages of gifts worth 1.5 billion VND (65,015USD) to local authorities.
The gifts, each worth 1 million VND, will be presentedto local social policy beneficiaries./.
The Vietnam Red Cross Society (VNRC) targets mobilising the necessary financial resources to provide at least 1.5 million gifts to poor and near-poor households, victims of Agent Orange (AO), victims of natural disasters and COVID-19 in 2020, and other vulnerable people ahead of the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.
Vice State President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh on January 22 visited and presented gifts to social policy beneficiaries, workers, and disadvantaged students in Duc Hoa district in the Mekong Delta’s Long An province.
Activities to celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday and a programme to make thousands of “banh chung” (square glutinous rice cakes) for the poor are slated to be held at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, the village announced on January 25.
