The US General Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City opened an“International Students Day” on November 13 to introduce educationopportunities for Vietnamese students who wish to study in America.
According to Consul General Rena Bitter, with 16,098students studying in the US in the 2012-2013 academic year, ayear-on-year increase of 3 percent, Vietnam topped the SoutheastAsia in terms of students learning there.
The figure is also the eight highest among countries having students in the US , she added.
The mutual understanding between the two countries’ students will playa key role in the process of expanding the two countries’ bilateralrelations and consolidating their comprehensive cooperation, she said.
The diplomat also expressed her hope that there will be moreVietnamese students in the US who will contribute to the learningenvironment in America as well as the building of an independent,strong and prosperous Vietnam.
The event is part of the international education week hosted by the US Departments of State and Education.-VNA
