At the meeting in Hanoi,Phuc affirmed that Vietnam always wishes to further its ties with theUS for peace, stability and development of each nation, the region andthe world as a whole.

He praised contributionsby the US, a member of the multilateral Lower Mekong Initiative forum,in narrowing the development gap and protecting the environment inVietnam. He also thanked America for its assistance in overcoming theconsequences of the war in Vietnam, especially in Agent Orange/dioxinrelated issues.

The Deputy PM asked for moresupport in dealing with climate change and assessing heavy metal andenvironment pollution in Vietnam.

He alsoexpressed his hope that the US will create favourable conditions forVietnamese officials to attend courses on environment management.

McCarthy said that during her stay in Vietnam, she met Vietnamesepartners to discuss deactivating bombs and mines left over from the warand solving the impact of dioxin.

She confirmed that the US is willing to cooperate more extensively with Vietnam on these issues./.

Foreign policy contributes to propelling Vietnam into new era

2024 saw Vietnam significantly expanding its diplomatic activities with numerous partners and at various important multilateral forums and mechanisms. The country’s key leaders conducted a total of 60 external activities, including paying 21 visits to foreign countries and attend major multilateral conferences, as well as hosting 25 delegations of foreign leaders to Vietnam.
