US special representative for the
Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) policy Stephen Bosworth
arrived in Pyongyang on Dec. 8 for a three-day visit in an effort to
persuade DPRK to return to the stalled six-party denuclearisation talks.
According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Stephen Bosworth, who is accompanied by six others, arrived in Pyongyang by air on Dec. 8 from a US air base in the Republic of Korea (RoK).
Following his trip to the DPRK, Bosworth is scheduled to return to the RoK and then go to China, Japan and Russia to brief officials there on the results of his discussions in DPRK.
In Washington, State Secretary Hillary Clinton expressed her hope that Bosworth would be successful in persuading DPRK to return to the six-party denuclearisation talks and the opening up a new page in the relations between the US and DPRK as well as between DPRK with other partners in the talks.
Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said China, as host of the six-party talks, hopes Bosworth's visit can be conducive to the resumption of the six-party talks.
Pyongyang withdrew from the six-party talks in April to protest a UN Security Council condemnation of a rocket launch it conducted the same month.
In May, the country conducted a second nuclear test, followed by a series of short-range missile tests./.
