Washington DC (VNA) – US President Donald Trump left Washington DCon February 25 (local time) for Hanoi to attend the DPRK-USA Hanoi SummitVietnam.
Trump is scheduledto meet Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea and the State AffairsCommission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un onFebruary 27-28.
He expressed hisoptimism about a productive summit with the DPRK leader in a Twitter post afterboarding Air Force One.
Air Force One isexpected to arrive in the Noi Bai International Airport of Hanoi on February 26evening (local time).
The first summitbetween US President Trump and DPRK leader Kim Jong-un was held on June 12,2018 in Singapore.
The parties signed ajoint document, in which Pyongyang committed to denuclearising the KoreanPeninsula in return for US security guarantees. However, negotiations after thesummit have yet to gain positive progress.
At the secondsummit, the two countries are expected to pass a joint declaration outliningthe DPRK’s specific steps on denuclearisation and reciprocal US moves,including a rollback of several sanctions.-VNA
