US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on September 3 arrived in Indonesia to start a visit aimed at further consolidating the comprehensive partnership between the two countries, as well as their commitments to regional and global issues.

The diplomat held talks with her counterpart Marty Natalegawa and organised a joint press conference soon after her arrival. On Sep. 4, she is scheduled to meet with President Susila Bambang Yudhoyono and visit the headquarters of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as a part of efforts to promote ties with the economically dynamic grouping.

The Indonesian tour is part of her 11-day visit to countries in Asia-Pacific, including Cook island, China , Brunei , Timor Leste and Russia . It takes place in the context that US President Barack Obama’s administration recently had moves to intensify its presence in the region.-VNA
