Representatives from the Vietnam Officefor Seeking Missing Personnel, US Ambassador to Vietnam MichaelMichalak and representatives from the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Commandattended the function.
The Vietnamese governmentrepresentative handed over to the US government representative threeboxes of remains which were recovered during the 99 th Joint FieldActivities from May to June 2010 and turned over by Vietnamese citizens.
Those remains were jointly reviewed and concluded byVietnam and US forensic specialists that they might be associatedwith the US servicemen missing during the war in Vietnam andrecommended to bring to Hawaii for further review.
Addressingthe ceremony, the US government representative expressed deepgratitude and high appreciation for the steadfast humanitarian policy,good-will and the increasingly efficient cooperation of the Vietnamgovernment and people.
This is the 114 th hand-over ofAmerican missing servicemen’s remains since 1973./.
