US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said the US hopes to see the ASEAN member states formulating a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC), which can solve disputes on the East Sea effectively.

At her meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen in Phnom Penh on July 11, Clinton stated that the US hopes what ASEAN is doing aims for COC, Ieng Sophallet, assistant to the Cambodian Premier, told the press after the meeting.

Hun Sen said that the best way to solve the issue is the implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).

Clinton recorded the rapid development of the US-Cambodia relationship and said that the two countries see many favorable conditions to strengthen bilateral ties.

She noted that disaster prevention, education, economics, trade and investment are areas of priority in the two countries’ cooperation.

She spoke highly of security cooperation between the US and Cambodia and said she wishes to see further expansion in this cooperation.

On the occasion, Clinton thanked Cambodia for supporting the US initiative on the development of the Lower Mekong countries, including Cambodia , Laos , Thailand and Vietnam .

She said that at the US-Lower Mekong Ministerial Meeting on July 13, she will announce an aid of 50 million USD for developing the region.-VNA
