– President of theVietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Tran Thanh Man presented 10scholarships worth 3 million VND (128.9 USD) each to poor students in VinhThanh district in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on August 2.

He also granted 50 bicycles worth nearly 100million VND (4,295 USD) to needy students.

Man said Vinh Thanh is a remote district in CanTho, so the travelling of locals remains difficult. The bicycles will make it easier forchildren to go to school.

He suggested local authorities and VFF chaptersat all levels pay more attention to education and support to students fromdisadvantaged backgrounds in order to help them continue their study on theoccasion of the 2018-2019 academic year.-VNA

Government pushes stronger data integration to tighten IUU fishing controls

According to the MAE, as of November 15, a total of 79,360 fishing vessels nationwide had been registered and updated in the national fisheries database (VNFishbase), reaching 100%. The number of licensed vessels stands at 76,811. Vessels found ineligible for operation have been placed under local supervision, with commune- and ward-level authorities assigned to manage their mooring.

Japan’s Nihon Denpa News licenced to reopen office in Vietnam

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang underlined NDN’s long-standing and close attachment to Vietnam, noting that it was among the first foreign media organisations to establish a resident office in the country.
