Vietnam attends 18th SEA Red Cross Red Crescent Leadership Meeting

Hanoi (VNA) – VicePresident and Secretary General of the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS) NguyenHai Anh on September 16 attended the 18th annual Southeast Asia Red Cross RedCrescent Leadership Meeting via videoconference.

Heldalternately in countries, the two-day event, chaired by the Thai Red Cross Society, afforded participants a chance toshare experience in further promoting regional cooperation in humanitarianfield and red cross movement.

Speaking at theevent, Anh said the COVID-19 pandemic has posed great challenges to Southeast Asia red crossand red crescent movement and national red cross societies in the region, butalso offered opportunities to raise funds, share skills and experience, andcreate a driving force for national red cross societies to better perform theirhumanitarian missions in the future.

The VRCS affirms itsstrong commitment to financial sustainability and resource mobilisation,development of activities by youths and volunteers, health care in emergencycases, and community safety which are priorities in its development strategytill 2030, Anh said, adding that the VRCS pledges to invest more in personnelworking in the humanitarian field.

TheVietnamese representative put forth suggestions regarding human resources, opportunities, useof apps in digital platforms and social media to pool resources and createfinancial sustainability.

Concludingthe event, leaders of national red cross societies are due to adopt the meeting’sconclusion and transfer the role of President of the Southeast Asia Red CrossRed Crescent Leadership mechanism to the Brunei Red Cross Society./.
