A high-ranking military delegation from Vietnam led by Deputy Minister of National Defence Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh participated in the ASEAN Defence Senior Officials Meeting (ADSOM) Retreat in Bali , Indonesia on October 22.
At the retreat, ASEAN defence senior officials reviewed defence cooperation among the bloc’s member countries in 2011 as well as discussed preparations for the agenda of the ASEAN Defence Ministerial Meeting (ADMM) Retreat scheduled for October 24 in this island nation.
On the sidelines of the ADSOM Retreat, Lieut. Gen. Vinh met with Cambodian Defence Minister Gen. Tea Banh and Deputy Defence Minister of the Philippines Pio Lorenzo F. Batino.
At the meeting with the Cambodian Defence Minister, the Cambodian side spoke highly of Vietnam ’s role as ASEAN Chair in 2010, considering it valuable experience for Cambodia when it assumes the position in 2012.
The Cambodian side expressed wish that Vietnam will share experience in preparing the contents and organisation of multilateral defence and military conferences and help Cambodia in organising such events in 2012.
At the meeting with the Deputy Defence Minister of the Philippines, the two sides expressed pleasure at the development of the bilateral defence cooperation in recent years and hope that cooperative documents between the two countries’ naval and maritime police forces will be signed in the coming time./.
