A delegation from the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) attended the 48th Congress of Bulgaria’s Socialist Party (BSP) in the country’scapital Sofia , on May 19-20.
The event wasattended by nearly 850 BSP members as well as representatives fromseveral Bulgarian political and social organisations and internationalguests.
The congress approved amendments to theBSP’s Statute and two important resolutions concerning the currenteconomic crisis and the steps the BSP needs to take in the 21 stcentury
Sergey Stanishev was re-elected as the Chairman of the BSP.
After the congress, the Vietnamese delegation, led by Pham MinhChinh, member of the CPV’s Central Committee and Secretary of the PartyCommittee in Quang Ninh province, met with BSP Chairman Sergey Stanishevand other party leaders to discuss issues of common concern.
The BSP Chairman thanked the CPV for sending a delegation to thecongress, saying it was a great source of encouragement for his party.
He spoke highly of Vietnam ’s role and positionin Asia and the world and praised the achievements Vietnam has madein recent years.
Stanishev expressed a wish tostep up cooperation with the CPV, which will help to consolidate anddevelop the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Bulgaria .-VNA
