The pact was inked during theAustralia visit from July 1-7 by a delegation from the Vietnam SupremePeople’s Procuracy led by Director General Nguyen Hoa Binh.
The Vietnamese official and Australian Minister of Justice MichaelKeenan described the signing as a demonstration of the internationalcommitments between the two countries in a joint effort against crimes,especially transnational one.
It also manifests theresponsibilities of each side in protecting justice as well as thelegitimate rights and interests of the State, organisations andindividuals, and the sound friendship in all areas, contributing to thereinforcement of the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, theysaid.
The Vietnamese official said that in the coming time,both sides will continue boosting cooperation in law enforcementactivities, especially in crime prevention such as drug crime and moneylaundering.
They will also work together to enhance lawmakers’ capabilities.
Vietnam and Australia signed an agreement on the transfer ofsentenced prisoners in 2009. Three years later, they inked a pact oncriminal extradition.-VNA
