Vietnam, Cambodia eye stronger front cooperation

Hanoi (VNA) – Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Bui Thi Minh Hoai hosted a reception for Vice President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), President of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodia Motherland (SFDCM) Samdech Men Sam An in Hanoi on January 26.

Hoai warmly thanked the CPP for sending Men Sam An to congratulate Vietnam on the success of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), highlighting that the gesture demonstrates the friendship and solidarity between the two parties and nations.

The Vietnamese official congratulated Cambodia on its recent development achievements, expressing her belief that, under King Norodom Sihamoni’s wise reign and the CPP’s leadership led by its President Hun Sen, the country will continue to achieve greater successes, realise its goals, and further strengthen its role and standing in the region and the world.

Acknowledging the increasingly close cooperation between the VFF and the SFDCM, Hoai warmly invited Men Sam An and a delegation of the Cambodian front agency to visit Vietnam in 2026 to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on a cooperation programme for the 2026–2031 period, laying the foundation for future joint activities. She also proposed jointly organising the 7th conference in Cambodia in the near future.

Marking the 60th anniversary of Vietnam–Cambodia diplomatic relations in 2027, Hoai proposed jointly developing practical plans to strengthen education and outreach, especially for young people, to deepen their understanding of the significance and importance of Vietnam–Cambodia relations and their responsibility in preserving and further strengthening the good neighbourly relations, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability between Vietnam and Cambodia.

The Vietnamese Party and State, and the VFF highly value Men Sam An’s personal contributions to strengthening Vietnam – Cambodia ties, Hoai stated, showing her hope that, Men Sam An, with her deep regard for Vietnam and its people, will continue to actively promote the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, particularly between the two front agencies.

For her part, Samdech Men Sam An congratulated Hoai on her election to the CPV Central Committee, and as President of the VFF Central Committee.

She also warmly congratulated the success of the CPV’s 14th National Congress, commending Vietnam’s accomplishments under the 13th Congress resolutions and the strategic directions set by the 14th Congress to advance the country’s development. The Cambodian official affirmed that the success of the Congress reflected the solidarity and trust of the Vietnamese people.

She affirmed that SFDCM will continue to promote public understanding of the close ties between the two Parties and countries. Honouring Vietnam’s timely and devoted support in helping Cambodia overthrow the genocidal regime on January 7, 1979, she said the Cambodian front remains committed to strengthening the good neighbourly relations, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability between the two nations./.
