Vietnam, Cambodia legislators pledge to boost ties

Hanoi (VNA) – National AssemblyChairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Cambodia’s SenateVice President Tep Ngorn stressed the need to continue nurturing andexpanding the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countriesin the coming time.

During a reception for Tep Ngorn in Hanoi on January 20, who is attending the 26th Annual Meeting of the Asia-PacificParliamentary Forum (APPF-26), Ngan highlighted the development of thebilateral relations over the last five decades, which she said is the pride anda valuable asset of both nations.

The NA Chairwoman congratulated Cambodia on its achievements in nationalconstruction and development in recent years, expressing her belief that underthe reign of King Norodom Sihamoni and the leadership of the Senate, NationalAssembly, and Government, Cambodia will reap greater achievements in thefuture.

The success of the communal council election in June last year will create foundation for Cambodia to successfully organise electionsof the Senate and National Assembly in 2018, she noted.

For his part, Tep Ngorn praised Vietnam’s organisation of the APPF-26, addingthat he appreciated the Vietnamese NA for sharing experience with Cambodiawhich will host APPF-27 next year.  

He also thanked the Vietnamese Party, State and people for theirsupport to help Cambodia escapeand revive from Pol Pot's genocidal regime.

Host and guest spoke highly of efforts made by the two countries’ authorities tocomplete 84 percent of the border demarcation and marker planting along theirshared land border line, expressing their belief that the two sides will fulfillthe remaining as soon as possible.

Ngan took the occasion to ask the Cambodian side to accelerate the settlementof legal status for Cambodians of Vietnamese origin, thus further contributing tothe development of Cambodia and the traditional friendship between the twocountries .-VNA

PM chairs national teleconference to promote key programmes
