Vietnam chairs first meeting of ASEAN Committee in New York

The first meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Committee was held in New York on January 10, focusing discussion on activities and priorities of ASEAN member states this year.

– The first meetingof the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Committee was held in NewYork on January 10, focusing discussion on activities and priorities of ASEANmember states this year.

Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of the Vietnamesepermanent mission to the United Nations (UN), chaired the event.

Countries affirmed to support Vietnam to assumesuccessfully the role of ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020 and United Nations SecurityCouncil (UNSC)’s Presidency in January 2020.

They agreed to continue promoting the image andactive engagement of ASEAN in the UN.

Participating nations highly appreciatedVietnam’s initiative of organising a meeting on cooperation between ASEAN andthe UN in maintaining international peace and security for the first time inJanuary 2020.

They were unanimous to continue carrying outtraditional activities of ASEAN Committee such as the ASEAN Family Day andASEAN Day to strengthen solidarity between member countries as well as promotecooperation and friendship between ASEAN and partners.

While sharing about priorities in 2020,countries said they will step up the implementation of the UN sustainabledevelopment goals, and enhance the supplementation between the UN Agenda 2030and ASEAN Vision 2025.

A number of activities will be held in 2020,especially the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the UN and the 25thanniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action on genderequality and women empowerment./.

Vietnam, China sign 32 cooperation documents

The documents include a cooperation plan between the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the Communist Party of China (CPC) for the 2026–2030 period; a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the Organisation Commission of the CPV Central Committee and its Chinese counterpart; and a cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and the International Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee.

Parliamentary leaders hail development of Vietnam – Russia ties

The top legislator of Vietnam proposed that both sides deepen political and diplomatic connections, as well as parliamentary cooperation, through delegation exchanges, high-level meetings through various channels, and the successful organisation of a visit to Vietnam by the Speaker of Russia’s Federation Council and a trip to Russia by the NA Chairman to co-chair the 5th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in 2026.
