Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- State President To Lam held a working session with Engineering Brigade 25 under Military Region 9 in the Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long on July 5.

This is a key unit of the force in Military Region 9, stationed at nine points across Vinh Long, Dong Thap, and Kien Giang provinces and Can Tho city, including the island communes of Tho Chau and Tien Hai in Kien Giang province. Read full story

- Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)'s Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Do Van Chien led a delegation to the Czech Republic for a working trip from July 2 – 5.

During their stay, the delegation met with Chairwoman of the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSCM) Katerina Konecna, Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic and the Deputy Chairman of the ANO movement Karel Havlicek, and Governor of the Karlovy Vary Region Petr Kulhanek. - A delegation of the Supreme People’s Court led by Chief Justice Nguyen Hoa Binh paid a working visit to Russia from July 2-5, during which he expressed his hope to learn experience from the country in developing and perfecting the legal system.

At a meeting with Chairwoman of the Russian Supreme Court Irina Podnosova on July 2, Binh noted that his visit aims to learn about the operation of first instance courts in Russia, which helps ease the workload for those at higher levels. Read full story

- A visiting delegation from the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA), led by Vice Chairman Nguyen Khac Dinh, paid courtesy calls to Party General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith in Vientiane on July 5 and Lao NA President Xaysomphone Phomvihane a day earlier.

At the meetings, the hosts expressed their gratitude and sincere thanks to the Vietnamese Party, State, and people for their consistent, substantial, effective, and timely support to Laos in the past and in the current national construction and defence efforts. Read full story

- Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Pham Hung Tam paid an official visit to New South Wales from July 3-4 to discuss measures to enhance cooperation between Vietnam and Australia in general and the state in particular.

While there, Tam made a courtesy call to the state’s Governor Margaret Beazley who spoke highly of the rapid development of cooperation between the two countries, especially since the upgrade of their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership during the official visit by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to Australia in March 2024. - The Ministry of Finance is proposing amendments to the Law on Corporate Income Tax to encourage environmental protection and sustainable development.

These amendments stipulate that firms will be exempt from corporate taxes on income from green bond interest and carbon credits. Read full story

- Credit growth has accelerating since the beginning of June, signaling that the 15% growth target is achievable, if the rate is maintained in the remaining months of this year.

Updates from the General Statistics Office showed that credit growth reached 4.45% as of June 24, while the State Bank of Vietnam's statistics showed that credit growth was at 2.41% as of May, meaning that credit expanded at around 2.04% in the first three weeks of June, equivalent to the growth rate of the first five months of the year. - Vietnam shipped some 29.2 billion USD worth of agro-forestry-aquatic products abroad during the January-June period, a year-on-year increase of 19%, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The sector’s trade surplus during the six-month span surged 62.4% against the same time last year to around 8.28 billion USD. Read full story

- National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines will receive new Airbus A320neo and Boeing 787-10 planes in July, the airline has announced.

The move aims to help the airline better meet passengers’ increasing demand during the peak summer travel season. Read full story

- The capital city of Hanoi is taking a significant step toward a more sustainable future for its public transportation system, with a July 4 approval of a plan to achieve a zero-emission bus fleet by 2035 via phasing out diesel vehicles in favour of electric ones.

Between 2026 and 2030, Hanoi aims for a mix of electric buses (50%) and buses powered by cleaner burning fuels like liquefied natural gas (LNG) or compressed natural gas (CNG) (50%). The estimated financial investment for this transition is 43 trillion VND (1.79 billion USD)./. Read full story
