Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- State President To Lam and a delegation of National Assembly deputies of the northern province of Hung Yen met with voters in Hung Yen city on July 2 to inform them of the outcomes of the just-concluded 15th NA’s seventh session, and listen to and clear up their ideas.

Many voters spoke highly of the outcomes of the session and put forth ideas regarding various matters of public concern to legislative work, supreme supervision, and decisions on important issues of the country. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a meeting with Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Woo Won-shik on July 2 as part of his official visit to the East Asian country from June 30 to July 3.

Woo welcomed Chinh and the high-level Vietnamese delegation and said the official visit will help deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations and promote the concretisation of the bilateral ties in accordance with the new framework. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Executive Chairman of Samsung Electronics Lee Jae Yong in Seoul on July 2, as part of his ongoing official visit to the Republic of Korea (RoK).

Samsung, a multinational electronics firm of the RoK with revenue reaching about 210 billion USD in 2023, has invested 22.4 billion USD in Vietnam and created jobs for about 90,000 workers. Read full story

- The export value of timber and wood products hit 7.95 billion USD in the first half of 2024, up 21.2% year-on-year, and representing 52.3% of the plan set for the year, the Forestry Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has reported.

That resulted in a trade surplus of 6.67 billion USD, 21.6% higher than that of the same period last year, statistics show. Read full story

- The Law on Water Resources 2023, officially effective from July 1, marks a leap forward in mindset, approach, and changes in water resources management methods to ensure that they are managed as national assets that belong to the entire people, said insiders.

According to Chau Tran Vinh, Director of the Department of Water Resources Management under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, with 10 chapters and 86 articles, the law institutionalises the new viewpoints, principles, and policies of the Party and the State regarding the management and protection of water resources. - A Vietnamese delegation attended the recent 19th ASEAN and 9th ASEAN+3 Youth Cultural Forum held by the ASEAN University Network in Bandar Seri Begawan.

It gathered representatives of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi; the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City; and the Can Tho University. - Swimmer Vo Thi My Tien received the official notice from the International Swimming Federation (FINA) on her wildcat to compete in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics, the Sports Authority of Vietnam under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said on July 2.

Accordingly, Tien will compete in the women’s 200-metre individual medley at the French games, the category in which she has had the best performance in international championships since 2023. Read full story./.
