Vietnam and China ’s working teams conducted the first round of negotiations on cooperation in less sensitive fields at sea, from May 29-30 in Beijing .
The negotiations were in accordance with the common perception of the two countries’ high-level leaders, the principles stipulated in the Vietnam-China agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of maritime issues signed on October 11, 2011, as well as results of governmental level negotiations on territorial border between the two countries.
The two sides discussed the implementation of cooperation in various fields including marine environmental protection, maritime science research, research and rescue at sea and preventing and limiting impacts of natural disasters. The two sides reached high consensus on the cooperative principle of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit. They also agreed on the working mechanism of working teams. Vietnam and China also agreed to hold the second negotiation round in Vietnam in the second half of this year.-VNA
