Vietnam clinches first-ever medal at WorldSkills Competition

Nguyen Duy Thanh nabbed a bronze medal for the Vietnamese team at the WorldSkills Competition 2015 after earning 535 points out of a total possible score of 600 in IT Software Solutions for Business, reported the Quan doi Nhan dan (People’s Army) daily. 

It is the first-ever medal Vietnam has won at a WorldSkills Competition, according to the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs.

Thanh, a student from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, was also awarded “Best of Nation” title among representatives of 59 participating countries this year.

Vietnam also came home with eight Medallions of Excellence in several skills including web design, welding, mechanical engineering design – CAD, CNC milling, bricklaying, plumbing and heating and mechatronics.

The 43rd WorldSkills Competition took place in Sao Paulo, Brazil from August 5-17, featuring 1,200 competitors from 59 countries, including 14 contestants from Vietnam, battling it out in 50 skill categories.-VNA
