Vietnam committed to supporting migrant women

On the fringes of a ceremony toestablish the ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs’ Network (AWEN), the eventrealised the regional leaders’ declaration on social welfare anddevelopment involving the rights of women and children, includingmigrant women who are at risk of human trafficking, abuse andexploitation.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister ofLabour, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thanh Hoa described Vietnamas an active member of the ASEAN Committee on the implementation of theDeclaration on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of MigrantWorkers.

Besides the amended law on Vietnamese nationality,the country is working with foreign governments to ensure that the guestworkers fully enjoy their legitimate interests, he said, adding thateducational campaigns are under way to keep them away from possiblerisks.

During the two sessions, participants considered waysto strengthen the partnership among the ASEAN Committee on Women, theAWEN, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) andother relevant agencies.

Vietnamese workers to enjoy five-day Reunification and Labour Day holiday

The Government is recommending public employers arrange their working schedules to swap out working on Saturday, April 26, for the day off on May 2.In early April, workers in Vietnam will also enjoy a day off for the Hung Kings Commemoration Day (the 10th day of the third lunar month), which falls on April 7 (Monday).
