Dien Bien (VNA) - Representatives of the Vietnamese and French armies will soon sign a letter of trust, which covers various contents directly related to the northwestern mountainous province of Dien Bien, visiting French Secretary of State for Veterans and Memory Patricia Miralles said at a meeting with provincial leaders on May 5.

The French official said Dien Bien Phu serves as a pivotal point connecting both sides, thus implying numerous collaborative tasks. Both sides will cooperate to develop and implement joint projects aimed at alleviating the pains of the past, fostering the development of Dien Bien, and strengthening the two countries’ friendship. In the immediate future, this includes the inauguration and operation of the lighting system for the province’s Muong Thanh bridge, symbolising the illumination and connection of the bilateral relationship.

Miralles, who is visiting Dien Bien when it is putting finishing touches to hosting the upcoming nation-level celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 – 2024), also expressed her hope that the province will continue to focus on building historical exploration routes with trilingual signage.

The official said she is looking forward to Dien Bien’s active coordination and effective implementation of projects and initiatives undertaken by the French government and organisations in the province.

Affirming the strong and enduring cooperation and friendship between France and Vietnam in general and Dien Bien in particular for many years, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Tran Quoc Cuong expected to receive further assistance from France and to see products bearing the province’s brand such as coffee, macadamia nuts, and rice, in the French market in the near future./.
