Vietnam hands over ACP chairmanship to Thailand

Prague (VNA) - Vietnamese Ambassador to the Czech Republic Duong Hoai Nam on December 19 chaired the 27th meeting of the ASEAN Committee in Prague (ACP) and the handover ceremony of the ACP rotating chairmanship from Vietnam to Thailand.

The event was attended by ambassadors and heads of diplomatic representative agencies from the six ACP member countries, including Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, Indonesia and the Philippines.

As the outgoing ACP Chair, Nam praised the close and effective cooperation of ASEAN ambassadors during Vietnam's tenure, contributing to the success of numerous events hosted by Vietnam, leaving a strong impression and showcasing the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)'s cultural and artistic values in Prague.

Notable events included celebrations for ASEAN's 57th founding anniversary (August 8), ASEAN+ Film Week, and ASEAN culinary space at Sapa trade centre, alongside various cultural and culinary promotion activities.

Nam highlighted the significance of 2025 as a milestone year marking the 75th anniversary of traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and the Czech Republic, saying that it provides an opportunity for both nations to deepen their collaboration across various fields, aiming to elevate their ties to a new height.

The ASEAN ambassadors lauded Vietnam's initiatives during its ACP chairmanship, stressing that Vietnam’s successful hosting of cultural and diplomatic events continues to affirm its role within the ACP and its influence in the Czech Republic.

They expressed admiration for the efforts and successful integration of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic, the largest ASEAN minority community in the European country.

Moreover, they also commended the support of Tamda Supermarket Group in promoting ASEAN consumer goods and food products through its extensive supermarket network in major Czech cities.

Thailand will officially assume the ACP chairmanship from January 1 to June 30, 2025./.
